Ok first of all, Otterbox is a much higher quality brand so if your going to go with a case than you should choose Otterbox. Another reason I highly reccommend choosing Otterbox over Speck is because Speck is much more likely to be counterfeited than Otterbox. One of the reasons for this is design. Otterbox is much more unique and has a highly recognizable quality compared directly with Otterbox. Otterbox has two different types of cases for the iPhone 5; the Defender Series Case and the Commuter Series Case. I will lay out the description of each type below.

Defender Series: The Defender Series iPhone 5 case for Otterbox is the only case for demanding conditions, heavy use and random accidents. Three layers of protection include a polycarbonate skeleton that cushions the iPhone while the built-in screen protector prevents smudges and scratches. The outer layer wraps around the solid inner shell like an epidermis, creating a practically indestructible iPhone 5 case. A belt-clip holster is included and doubles as a media viewing stand. It also comes in the different styles and colors below. Each case varies widely in price and you can click on the images for more details regarding the prices and finer details.

Commuter Series: The Commuter Series iPhone 5 case is sleek enough to slide into your pocket yet tough enough to toss into your bag. Built with two-layers of protection and an adhesive screen protector, the Commuter Series iPhone 5 case provides the protection that will keep your device looking stylish while you stay on top of your highly connected life. It also comes in the different styles and colors below. Each case varies widely in price and you can click on the images for more details regarding the prices and finer details.

Conclusion: So, as you can see there are a wide variety of Otterbox Cases for the iPhone 5 and compared to the Speck line of products you will find the each of these cases offers a much better and more secure protection. Speck has been produced as a knock off overseas it is hard to find a case that will actually be legit by Speck online.

I apologize for the accident. I was trying to upload the Otterbox Defender Series Cases and my account timed out. There are quite a few so let me start over again with the description of the Otterbox Defender Series.

There are actually 11 different styles of Otterbox iPhone 5 Defender Cases. No more, no less. Otterbox is a proven brand and that is why I reccommend it.

My wife has a Speck hard case on her MBP. Seems to do a nice job functionally although she is unhappy with it for purely asthetic reasons (doesn't like the clear plastic). She also had a Speck case on here ancient iPod Nanao, which seemed to work well (nary a scratch on it when we sold it). For iPhones, however, I wasn't particulary impressed with any of the Speck cases I saw first hand, but also have to add I haven't used one.

W'ere both using OtterBox Commuters cases on our iPhones. While my preference would be to go caseless, I know how hard I am on cell phones, so a case was definitlety in order. We're pleased with them. Very good protection, but not as bulky or as expensive as say the Defender. I strongly recommend checking Amazon or eBay before making the purchase. We got ours for about a third of the cost as Best Buy or other local retail sources.
