Ipod 7th Gen Malfunction

I plugged my Ipod 7th Gen into my laptop to charge, left it for an hour, then when I came back my laptop had crashed at some point for some reason. I then had to remove my ipod and to do System Restore. After this my Ipod has had no response whatsoever, and the all USB ports won't recognise it, saying the device has malfunctioned etc. I don't know whether it isn't responding because it has such low battery or whether something could have happened when my laptop crashed. Now I can't charge it either, as it won't connect to my laptop. Has anyone got any ideas what to do?
