HI,

Do you mean you have entered the details but it will not accept them ?

Do you mean the name (Apple ID) has been input and the account is listed but not Active ?

(There is an "Enable this Account" tick Box - alternatively use the Message Menu > Accounts item and select the iMessages account)

HI,

So, by implication I take you have entered the info and it is not progressing and is not letting your enable it Manually.

Are there any messages about the Messages app in Console.

They may involve or list IMAgent.

Also, if you have not got one, create a Test Mac User account in System Preferences > Users and Groups

Log in to this and see if you can "register" your Apple ID in Messages.

HI,

The Console App in Applications/Utilities lists the actions the computer has been doing.

It has Diagnostic and Usage Information.

When I launch my Messager App it leaves an item which can be expanded into this

User uploaded file

I.e. it is one original Line and the expansion lists the various settings.

Sometimes you get error related information that can point out where it is having problems.

Messages is supported by an app called IMAgent, which itself is part of a framework item on the System side of things.

A Guest Mac User account does not always have the same access as a regular User Account.

It will not tell us as much.

Hi,

As the IMAgent seemt to be having an issue lets make it stop and restart Messages.

Open the Activity Monitor which you will find in Applications/Utilities.

When this has launched find and highlight the imagent (it will be in lower case)

Use the Quit option button top left.

You will have to confirm Force Quit after this.

Restart Messages.

If this does not appear to work re-do the Quitting of IMAgent then restart the Mac

(IMAgent starts up when the computer does - quitting it and making it restart by starting an App that uses should work but not always)

HI,

Try this update

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4476

It does not seem to be appearing in the App Store or Software update.

Some have said it works for them and one person says it does not work for him (that know about)

Hi,

In that case has this computer ever been repaired or refurbished ?

If so has that involved any of the main circuit boards ? (Graphics/Video card or Mother/logic board. )

If this has been done then it is possible the Serial Number has been removed (or not replaced)

you can check this by going to the Apple icon Menu whilst Holding the ALT key down and selecting the top Item which will now read System Information.

In System Information (Formerly the System Profiler) in Hardware the right hand panel should list a Serial Number.

It seems that Messages is using this in some way (Possibly as a simple check the Mac is a suitable machine).

HI,

With the Finder as the Front app use the Go Menu > Go to Folder.

Type ~/Library/Preferences into the Dialogue box that appears.

When you are in the Preferences find com.apple.imservices.iMessages.plist and com.apple.imessages.bag.plist

Highlight them and drag them to the Trash.

Restart Messages.

You may find that you have to re-enter your Apple ID in the iMessages account (the first .plist holds this info)
