I am unable to connect to my Wi-Fi at home, but am able to connect at work. Using my new iPad 4G with cellular and a Motorola SBG6580. My iPad 3G Wi-Fi only connects just fine; the 4G just "spins the gear."

Some things to try first:

1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)

• Launch Settings app

• Tap on Wi-Fi

• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list

• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Tom, I should have mentioned that I tried 1 and 2 but was unsuccessful. I was about to try 3 when I remembered having to contact CableOne (tv and internet provider) to get on with iPad 3G. So I called them again, and he took your suggestion to change channels, and also changed the name and password. I don't know if all that was necessary, but it was successful.

Of course, I had to change the settings on the 3G and the Apple TV, but all is good now.

Thanks.

So weird… 😕 I think Comcast San Francisco coincidentally upgraded the firmware (thanks for prohibiting me from managing my own firmware! 😐) on my Motorola SBG6580 to 3.5.8.2-GA-00-488-NOSH around the same time my iPad mini stopped being able to join my Wi-Fi network at 2.4 GHz. I systematically tried:

  • Power cycling the router
  • Toggling Wi-Fi on the iPad mini
  • Power cycling the iPad mini
  • Resetting Network Settings on the iPad mini
  • Toggling WPA2-PSK security
  • Changing the Network Name (SSID)
  • Toggling 802.11 "n-mode"
  • Toggling 802.11 "N Support Required"
  • Toggling Bandwidth between 20 and 40 MHz
  • Changing Control Channels
  • Toggling STBC Tx
  • Toggling WMM Support (Apple recommends to leave it enabled)
  • Erasing All Content and Settings on the iPad mini

The only change that reliably lets my iPad mini join my network now is to use the 5 GHz band, which gets less penetration so I may have to reposition the SBG6580… 😝 Anyhow, I thought I'd share my experience since I didn't find any solid solutions online, but did find lots of rampant speculation (e.g. Apple IPv6 conspiracy 😁).

P.S. I guess I should add that my iPad mini works with IPv4 just fine. 😉

I am unable to connect to my Wi-Fi at home, but am able to connect at work. Using my new iPad 4G with cellular and a Motorola SBG6580. My iPad 3G Wi-Fi only connects just fine; the 4G just "spins the gear."
