SSD Performance Boost?

My current 2011 MacBook Pro setup consists of the stock hard drive (320 GB, 5,400RPM) with two daisy-chained Firewire external drives (one for Logic projects, one for samples) along with 8GB RAM.

Having said that, will swapping the current internal hard drive with an SSD result in any increased performance with regards to Logic (or 3rd party plug-ins for that matter), or is the performance increase I'm after only going to occur as a result of better internal components (quad-core instead of duo-core, i7 over i5 etc.).

Cheers.
