How to tell if iPod Shuffle need battery replacement?

My iPod Shuffle (1st Gen) can still be detected by iTunes with lights still blinking.

When I unplug it and turn it on, no lights are showing and doesn't play.

Tried resetting it but still doesn't fix the problem.

Do I just need to change the batteries?

iPod shuffle, Windows 7

Considering the age of the Shuffle and that it won't power on when disconnected from an external power source, it's likely that the battery is shot an in need of replacement.

You can choose to have Apple swap out the batteries for a flat fee or even send it to a third party service to have them do the same job for a little less.
