Why can't I hear anything on my playback?

So apparently on my Garageband, whenever I import an audio file from the Garageband library or my iTunes library, I cannot hear anything on the playback. However the volume meter on the bottom indicates that is it indeed audible however I cannot hear anything. What do I do?
