Problem with CD on Mac

I have a Mac OS X computer (Imac 10.1) operating system version is 10.6.8.

The problem with this team is that the CD / DVD does not read the contents of these devices.

As I can diagnose the problem mentioned above.

As the process is to replace this device.

Note: My knowledge in all that relates to computers and Apple operating systems are basic.

I await a response.

Greetings from Mexico.

Is the problem present with commercial CDs in iTunes or DVDs in Apple's DVD Player?

Is the problem present with the installer disc that came with the machine?

Google translate:

¿El problema actual con los CD comerciales en iTunes o DVD en DVD de Apple Player? ¿El problema actual con el disco de instalación que viene con la máquina?

Hi

I have been having problems ofr the last few weeks with the drive in my iMac (Late 2009 24"). I am running OSX 10.8.2

When the problem occurs, I can solve it temporarily by resetting the PRAM and the SMC. Sometimes this works for a single disc, at other times it works for a day or two.

The problem is largely with DVDs. DVD player gives error 70012, and the drive doesn't appear in finder etc.

If playing up the drive accepts a DVD makes the approriate noises and then spits it out. If it keeps the disc, then it is not registered in finder or on the desktop and it cannot be ejected using the keyboard.

It would appear that my problem may be software based given that restart/reset seem to work.

Any suggestions.
