MacBook Pro Retina external display blurry

I've connected my ViewSonic vx2250wm-led (22'', 1920x1080) monitor to MacBook Pro Retina via Thunderbolt-DVI adapter from Apple. I see desktop on external monitor, but all fonts seems to be blurred. Especially bold letters.

Some other discussuion here suggests that this might me MacBook driver problem.

You can clearly see that all looks blurred on external display (first image).

5 phone conversations with an apple UK tech guy, passed it on to the US tech dept, went up the chain a bit before they said they sorry can't help. UK tech guy was aware of my issue and could see what i meant with examples but obviously apple couldn't find a solution.

He also said that apple do not pay attention to these forums unless someone under apple care / warranty brings up an issue discussed in a forum. ie, like this one.

Refering back to a 2006 mbp external monitor I realise that this does not look so flash either.

Part of the problem is the mbpr looks so friggen good! (this does not excuse jaged fonts etc... which is not apparent in a 2006 mbp)

Good day guys!! I think the problem would be on the type of HDMI connection. I just bought HP 23fi LED yesterday then plugged it to the hdmi port of macbook pro retina display. The text was worst but I thought its just normal at this size of LED but when I plugged the apple tv directly to my LED I noticed the big difference, So i searched over the internet regarding the blurry text issues and I read this forum.

I was using the HDMI cable from apple, the thin one. Before I thought that hdmi cable would be the best because its has thin cable. But the blurry text really made me frustrated so I tried to used the bundled HDMI cable with my new HP LED then viola the resolution is now really good. No more blurry text. Then I tried my expensive HDMI cable which also rendered good resolution from Rmbp to my external monitor, so I guess the problem is on the HDMI cable you are using. Give it a try guys!! im glad I dont have the blurry text and pics now on the external monitor.

I have a new rMBP 15 and I am having a major problem with hooking up to external projection systems. Otherwise, it's a fantastic computer for running Windows (required for work) and Mac, my preference.

I have to often hook up to an external projector at various companies for presentations and I never know which type of projector they will have. Most are VGA and and most do not work with the Apple TB-VGA because it sees them as 640x480. I finally found a solution with an "active" VGA adaptor from Cirago:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005AT2KTK/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&p sc=1

However, now that I have higher resolution the image is blurry much like the OP but even worse and not usable. I am going to experiment with various settings I have found on other posts and forums, but most are specific to a fixed setup, whereas I need plug&play and don't have the time to fiddle with settings before each presentation.

My fear is that I may have to abandon the rMBP and revert to my old clunker DELL, due only to this one major issue issue.

to follow-up after some experimentation with external VGA projectors, LCD monitors:

Apple TB-VGA adaptor works in OSX and Windows in Parallels, does not work with bootcamp Windows except for newer equipment. However, you have to be very selective to match an unscaled resolution on the external display for a clean image. The "best setting for display" is not always the best. Also, when in Parallels Windows, let the Mac OSX dictate the resolution on the projector, not the resolution setting in Windows. If the image looks blurry, take Windows out of Full Screen Mode and put back in Full Screen Mode. When using mirrored display for presentations, use the Display resolution settings for the external monitor/projector.

I'll be on the road next week facing a variety of presentation setups, so hoping for the best. But I feel more confortable now after experimentation.

seadoodude,

How did your roadtrip go with the different projectors? I have the same issue with portable projectors and do not have time to fiddle with projectors prior to a presentation.

When I hook up to a monitor for presentations, things look great, but it is the portable projectors that things are always fuzzy and fonts look pixilated.

I have tried experimenting with one of our projectors, but it still does not look right, even when fiddling with the projector settings. Our sales rep just blames the mac for any issues and I'd love to take this out of his arsenal.

Any help would be appreciated.

it worked great with the cirago TB-VGA adaptor on every projection system at every sight we visited, 2 per day, 5 days!!! I tried both options, bootcamp and Parallels. No problems at all.

Just as you would have to do with a PC, check which resolutions are available (depends on projector) and which look best. Therefore:

1) Bootcamp - use the windows desktop context menu to set the screen resolution.

2) Parallels or Fusion - use the OSX Display control to set the screen resolution, then put windows in full screen model.

Realize however, that VGA is a low quality analogue technology, so don't expect it to look like a digital DVI or HDMI high resolution image. But VGA quality is identical with Mac or PC at the same resolution settings. The Cirago active TB-VGA is the only adaptor that I have found that works with BootCamp on older VGA projectors.
