The 30-pin to lightning adapter won't charge on my iPhone 5

Hey guys, as you may know I bought an adapter for my iPhone 5 for my Bose Soundock since it had the previous port. It played music, which was good, but it wouldn't chrge like it would do if you use a previous gen iPhone. I found it odd, so I tried to charge it using the adapter and the 30pin charger and it wouldn't charge! Does anyone know how to fix it? Is there some sort of configuration or reset that I have to do on my phone? Or is it just a piece of crap adapter that won't even charge?
