How does Match works? Default computer?

Hi,

Start by selecting the computer that you plan to keep all your music then back up music to an external hard drive.

When process is complete, sign into iTunes Match on your second computer using same apple ID. If you have additional music on this computer, those tracks will be matched/ uploaded etc.

Once process is complete, you will see all tracks from first computer with the download button in cloud column plus the tracks already on your second computer.

If you go back to your first computer and reopen iTunes, your library will update and will now show tracks from second computer with the download button in the cloud column.

You can now download those tracks to first computer if you wish to consolidate all music to the first machine. You can now delete those tracks from the second machine but remember not to delete them from the cloud.

Result - first computer has all you music on its hard drive plus external back up (you have option to up grade lower bit rate track on matched tracks. The second computer will have music files on that hard drive - iTunes will show all music in the cloud. This music can be streamed or downloaded.

Actually, no. As I understand it the service sees the cloud as the "master" library and all the devices, including any iTunes libraries that upload music, as the clients. At least, that's my understanding of it. I still think of my laptop as the "master" though.

Yes, it is likely that they have been upload. If you add cloud status column, this will tell you what's been uploaded.

To add the iCloud Status column to the iTunes browser window pull down View > View Options, select "iCloud Status" and click OK. This will add a new column to iTunes that will tell you if tracks are "matched," "uploaded," "Waiting," etc.
