My mac is OS X 10.5.8 and due to employment restrictions, i am unable to update it to accomodate the latest iTunes update.

As a result, my new iPhone 5 will not sync with my mac itunes!!! No music, no nothing!!!

Please help!

Sorry, but it appears you're at a dead end. The iPhone 5 requires iTunes 10.7, and that installs only on systems running 10.6.8 or later. If your company won't allow you to upgrade your Mac to 10.6.8, you're stuck and you'll need to sync your iPhone to another computer.

thank you so much for your rapid reply.  This is all driving me crazy!!!

that's what i thought.  is there some way to retrieve my itune library where i purchased most of the music from apple and place it on my phone without icloud.  Can i access it directly from itunes?

also, I do have another computer in my home but it is not mine.  how do i sync my iphone to another computer if there is already an iphone on it?  And....how do i bring 'MY" itunes library over to that computer without interfering with existing one that needs to stay in place?

You can download new and most past purchases directly to the iPhone from iCloud.  You won't, however, be able to sync with an iTunes library.

Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not all media formats are available in all countries (see: iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match Availability by Country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085); apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this).  Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones, audiobooks), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.

We need specifications for the other computer.  We don't even know if it is a Mac or a PC.  Can it run iTunes 10.7?  If it can, you can create a new user account and use a new library there.  You can transfer your whole iTunes folder from the old computer to the new one but it won't be easy to keep them synchronized.

it syncs an iphone 5 to itunes with no problem.  It is a newer mac.  Can i utilize both itune libraries on both computers?  if i purchase a song on one, will it automatically go on the other library?

here's another option.....what if i didn't have a laptop, but only used my iphone for itunes.  How do i have access to those songs then on my phone?  Can't i do it that way?

That's what my first two paragraphs were about.
