MBP won't wake from sleep when cold

My 2011 MBP sits in my car while I'm at the gym in the morning. When the outside temperatures are cold (<50F), it will not wake from sleep when I get to work. I connect an external USB hub which shows power. I also connect an external monitor. The screen stays black and there is no activity. I have to do a power off/power on cycle and then it works fine all day. What could be causing this? I have no issues like this during the warm weather months. Anything I can check or reset?
