Imac Memory

I am thinking about adding more memory to my early 2008 2.8 Ghz Core 2 Duo 8.1 24" Imac. It came with 2.0GB of memory and I waould like to add 4Gb more to make a total of six.

I have been on the OWC website where a 6.0GB upgrade Kit is offered for about $117. The process of adding it to my Imac seems pretty straightforward, and I was wondering if anyone here has done the upgrade.

I know Apple says 4GB is the max but I am reading all over the place of people who have gone up to 6GB, so it seems possible.

Thousands have done this upgrade, OWC is a very trusted reseller. If you buy their kit and follow the install instructions (very very easy to do) I'm sure your experience will be fine and you will feel like you have a new iMac again.

In concert with rkaufmann87, I have upgraded my Mac (a year older than yours) to 6GB with no problem, indeed with greatly improved performance. Go ahead, I'm sure all will be ok. Incidentally, the OWC site is best suited to North America, the Crucial.com site is best suited to Europe. Both offer similar services but it's all a question of buying at the right price, the exchange rate differences and shipping costs.

I did look on their web site but they had the 2007 model then skiped to the 2009, I have the 2008, the 8.1 model.

2007 & 2008 are almost identical, you can follow the directions for the 2007 shown. Again it doesn't matter what slot you use.The whole job takes less than 5 minutes, you have spent much much more time on these forums than the whole job will take. 🙂
