iPhone 5 charges only via Macbook Pro

Last week, my parents visited from a world trip and got me an iPhone 5. I currently live in a country where the iPhone 5 is not yet launched so i couldnt get help from here. When i finally got my nano-sim, i start it up and set up as usual. After a few hours of use, i wanted to charge before bed, to a suprise, it chimed (charging chime), displayed the charging icon for a second, and its not charging anymore.

I have tried charging via ipad2 and the included charger but no luck. It somehow could only charge via my macbook pro. So i dont think the cable has a problem nor the charging socket.

What is happening? Is this because of a different country voltage outlet? It came with a 3 pin UK type plug, and here we use that, similarly with any other appliances that we got overseas...?
