Then it may still work if you use Quicktime 7 instead of 10. If it can't even use QT 7 then get rid of it.
Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)

I have installed QuickTime player 7.6.6, but when I open ColorQuartet it quits after the splash screen and I hear a subtle 'oops' played by the mac... So, can I safely remove QuickTime10 from my machine?
The 7... version is placed in my 'utilities' folder and I reckon that it doesn't funktion as 'primary' QT-app. When ColorQuartet uses QT-elements, it probably doesn't use the 7... elements, right? (sorry for the dumb-*** questions)
I know ColorQuartet works with OS X 10.5.8, so getting rid of QT 10 could or should do the trick...
(btw ColorQuartet is the only software able to communicate with the scanner...)
... I have absolutely no clue how to direct ColorQuartet to use QT7-files instead of the (system)QT10 files/command lines. It seems to be a task requiring that you deal with the code, which is way out of my capacity.
btw, I bought this brand scanner (scanview scanmate), because it's the only drum scanner brand that is serviced locally - a fact of the utmost importance! It seems I have to get hold of an old powerbook to run the scanner...
