why do my audio and video dip to black intermitently during print to tape?

Hi fellow FCP users.
I have the latest version of FCP, I have my dual processor G5 and my 3.5 terrabytes of Apple storage. everything was working great during print to tape but suddenly in my latest project, I am getting intermittent fast dips to black and /or audio dips. I know this can happen if you have a big project on a small removable drive but I'm playing from my strong reliable Mac storage drives. Any thoughts/ Help will be deeply appreciated,
Thanks.

thanks Jerry but no, I don't have a capture card . . . but I seem to have solved the problem - still mysterious, but solved.
My tracksheet had some elements that repeated themselves throughout the piece and the problems always happened intermitently and on different parts of the same repeated seccions. when I dubbed to Beta using AJA IO, I had no problem. We checked the DVCAM deck where I was recording via direct firewire and the deck was fine: in other words, it would record correctly into my Beta SP going through AJA but had occasional glitches on a properly working Sony 1500A directly via firewire.
I then proceeded to export that "corrupt" spot(a couple of dissoved scenes with titles and music) and converted it into a new QT video source. I then replaced it into the different seccions of the tracksheet, thus getting rid of the endividual files of the "corrupt" spot and placed the brand new single element as a replacement.
After that was done, no pronlem-no audio and video glitches.
weird but I'm up and running.

any ideas????

thanks and hoppefully my solution will help others.

this is my fire wire configuration:
only 1 firewire cable goes out of my G5.
When I am inporting or exporting from Beta SP, I have the other end of thhe firewire connected to the AJA IO.
Whenever I am going to export or import to the DVCAM, I just change my settings in FCP to DVCAM and disconnect the firewire from the AJA IO and connect it to the DVCAM.
Again, intrestingly enough, The Beta SP recorded with no glitches, unlike the DVCAM. I wonder if the AJA itself had something to do with the avoiding of glitches into the Beta SP
