How to use MacBook black with closed lid?

Hi! I'm trying to use my MacBook black with closed lid, but I simply can't manage. I've tried different programs such as InsomniaX, Caffeine etc, but none of them work. My Mac either crashes or still goes to sleep. I've tried connecting USB keyboard, USB mouse and an LCD TV (SONY Bravia 32") but it won't work. I close the lid, push some buttons and the picture comes up for just a few seconds, then it goes black again and a sign "NO SIGNAL" appears on the screen. Any ideas?

I already read it but as I said the picture comes up for a few seconds and then "no signal". Any other suggestions?

This might seem obvious, but is the MacBook connected to AC power? It won't work in "clamshell mode" otherwise.

There's no need to post a second thread about this. If you start up again elsewhere someone else will just have to ask you the same questions I did.

Yes it is. I did read the instructions about clamshell mode. Is it possible the keyboard and mouse have to be manufactured by Apple?

I do not believe it is necessary for the keyboard and mouse to be made by Apple, and it is not stated so in their documentation. I'm afraid at this point I don't know what is causing the issue.

None taken. My Mac Black really is getting old and I believe it is possible the issue is caused by that. Thanks anyhow!
