Why do my desktops switch automatically/seemingly randomly?

For example, I'm typing this in Firefox, full screen, on the second desktop, but for some reason, I keep getting put back into the first desktop, which is totally empty (no apps assigned to the first desktop are open). It has switched twice since I typed this.
