Moving JPG from Window XP to new MacBook Pro

I have a new MacBook Pro and I am in the process of moving all of my data / picutures from my PC (Windows XP) to my Mac. I have used a Seagate external hard drive that I used to keep my PC backed up to load my files on my new Mac. I have pictures from 2001 to current on the hard drive. All of the picures that I have taken from my iPhone loaded just fine, however MOST of the pictures will not open in either Preview, or iPhoto. The pictures that do load come up half grayed out and or missing. The error message that is displayed is "File Cannot be Opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that preview doesnt recognize". Ive seen several post about running the disk utility to repair damaged files. Disk utility wont work on the Seagate hard drive (not sure why). Not sure what is going on. The pictures open just fine on my PC. What is the easiest way to get my family pcitures loaded on my Mac and viewable / usable in iPhoto?

Please help.... Thanks

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), Iphoto '11 version 9.4.2

The Seagate backup up is a Walmart special (Just plug it in a follow the directions from the PC). It is formatted Windows NT File System (NFTS).

I was going to just drap the files over from the hard drive, but my Mac wont let me view the thumnails from the hard drive. All other documents / files moved over that way w/o a problem.

Not sure on the color profile, not really sure how to find out. The 'get info' from finder is not showing me that info. However, Im sure I can get that from my PC.

And for whatever reason the Disk Utility options are greyed out when I select the external hard drive.

No DVD burner on my PC, CD only.

Thank u for your reply

OK... I really appreciate the help.

But the plot thickenss. I got back on my PC and tried to verify what the color profile the pictures are (still not sure how to that, it is not listed under the 'properties' tab on the PC). So as a last ditch effort I emailed myself 2 pictures I knew that were not opening on the Mac from the external hard drive. Went to my MacBook, opened my email, the pictures displayed perfectly and imported into iPhoto w/o a problem. Go figure.

This would be a great solution excepet I have over 11yrs of pictures I want to bring over.

I will go back to google and keep searching.

Any other ideas??

I appreciate the help very much!

Solution Found!

Get 'DropBox' and load it on your Windows machine and your Macbook. Free program that gives you 2gb of storage. Drag the pictures you want over to the dropbox on your PC. After loading 'DropBox' on your Mac you now have all your pictures to drag N drop into iPhoto. Every one of my old pictures and current (01-12) work just fine.
