multiple coloured and solid gray lines on the display

Left my notebook for a while and find it out in a sleep mode, after awaking - saw it with the multiple coloured (like white noise) and solid gray lines on the display.

I read a lot here, but couldn't find the solution. found out it could be some issue with the nvram. I followed the instructions from here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 and resetting helped. Next morning - the same story. Screen looks like it is devided into lines - first the same multiple coloured and solid gray lines, after resetting became - black - white - black - white - and etc. and after resetting nvram again - it starts to look normal.

It is not old - something like one year.

Couldn't go to apple service center right now - because it is far away, in another part of the country.

Somebody know what is this problem? Is it graphics card? Or else?

It is macbook pro, 17.

Processor 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7

Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB.

Software OS X 10.8.2 (12C60).

Thanks

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

If your latest fix does not work. Could be the graphics card, or possibly the logic board, you can take it to Apple they will diagnose it for free, and give you a price for the repair, if you decide to go that route. If you are still under warranty, or have Apple Care, they will probably repair for no charge, provided there is no evidence of being dropped or liquid damage.
