why is my iphone sending a copy of all of my texts to my other iphone

My wife finally updated her iPhone 3GS to the latest iOS version. The initial settings are wrong and it's sending a copy of all of our text messages to each other's phones. I'm getting messages from conversations I'm not a part of and vice versa. I've tried to find the setting without success. Can you help?
