Trackpad suddenly stopped working, and lights flashing - help!

My trackpad suddenly stopped working and the light started flashing. I changed the batteries, but it is still flashing and not working. How do I fix it?

Your Magic Trackpad can't find your Mac. Open System Preferences > Trackpad and follow the steps to connect it

I don't have a mouse to connect to the computer. So how do I do this? The trackpad is all I have!

Turn off your Mac and your trackpad (hold the Power key that it's in the trackpad until the green light turns off). Then, turn on your computer and, when OS X has started, turn on your trackpad
