Screen protection using a stylus?

It's what it's designed to do. The only way I could see a problem would be if you had a bit of grit on the screen and somehow, managed to get it stuck under the stylus.

I highly recommend NOT using a Jot on an unprotected stylus. Not tips will not/cannot scratch glass. But a tiny particle between the tip and the screen will scratch the glass.

Also, the Go Smart Stylus is a much better stylus than any of the Jot lineup. It's FAR more responsive, way more consistent and just as accurate as the Jot, if not more. The chances of the Go Smart scratching your screen are far fewer than with the Jot, wherein its just a matter of time.

Hmm. The Go Smart Stylus looks like it has "borrowed" the Jot's design. Why do you think this almost identical design is less likely to scratch, especially when you already seem to have agreed that the Jot will not scratch the screen but a piece of grit under the stylus (which could happen with any stylus, by the way) could?

Because, Meg, the Jot tip is a solid, flat, plastic disc which makes full contact with the screen. Any particulate under the stylus tip is going to be dragged. The Go Smart on the other hand is a thin, ring with a crosshair. It does not have a solid, flat surface making contact. It's far more skeletal. Even with a dirty screen the chances of actually physically trapping something between the tip and the screen are greatly reduced due to the fact that there's is very little actual surface to surface contact between the tip and the glass. And as far as borrowing goes... the GoSmart is quite different than the Jot. I think using "nearly identical" is a huge stretch. If you we're to look at who actually borrowed more closely from who—it would be Adonit who borrowed from Dagi. Dagi had the plastic disc long before anyone else. Technically, the GoSmart is probably closer to the oStylus than the Jot. It's closer in design to the Dagi in that its a disc pivoting on a spring. So there's that.

The GoSmart is far more consistent and responsive than any plastic disc stylus because its tip is metal. All of it is metal. This means there's always capacitance. It works great every time. Jots have major problems (as the two of us have already discussed in another thread). Visibility is also much better with the GoSmart in that you're looking thru a wireframe, thru mostly air. With the Jot you're looking thru a solid disc of foggy plastic.

Actually, you're the only one in this thread who's mentioned problems, major or minor with the Jot. Personally, I love it. Sounds as if you might have had a defective one. The plastic on mine is very clear. But, my larger point is, there are a number of different types of stylii out there. It mostly seems to be a matter of personal preference. Should I ever cross paths with a GoSmart, I'll no doubt give it a try.

I never said anything about anyone else in this thread. Someone posted a question and people replied. I replied with my take on the subject based on my experiences. That's all I really can do.

I've actually gone thru a couple Jots and several replacement tips. The results are the same. But what you say about it being defective is true… as a product on the whole.

It being a personal preference is also true. But, if you prefer a more accurate, 100% responsive stylus that just works every time you go to use it—the GoSmart is a much better choice than the Jot.

If you ever do cross paths with a GoSmart, I'd be very curious to hear what you have to say.
