Nov 22, 2012 8:00 AM in response to dookMaFootby léonie,★HelpfulYou can try to import selectively, when you connect your camera. Don't use the "IMport All" button, but press the Command ⌘ key while you click each photo you want to import, and then click the "Import Selected" button.

Aug 11, 2014 4:33 AM in response to dookMaFootby Albert Zeeman,Use FotoLader (Dutch). A standard app by Apple and free on your Mac. You can sort on type. Select all photos and import direct into iPhoto. This is how I avoid getting video in iPhoto.

In English, I believe that Image Capture (in the Applications Folder) you're referring to.
