I have foolishly deleted a powerpoint file accidentally while using CC Cleaner for Mac - is there any way to recover this file?

First, delete CCleaner. Then, did you delete a PowerPoint app file or a file project? If you have Time Machine, you can go to Time Machine UI and restore your file
I deleted a Powerpoint file *.ppt - not familiar with Time Machine UI - will this approach work without a back up to external disk?
If the removed Powerpoint file is not in your trash folder, or CCleaner for Mac deleted it, your only recourse is to have a backup copy of that file on another disk or folder location. There is no native undelete, and although Piriform has a Recuva utility, it is strictly for MS Windows.
Is there an Apple approved file recovery programme? I've downloaded a few to find the Macbook wont open them as they're 'unofficial' gettign worried now! thanks for input thus far
If you have a Time Machine backup, click the Time Machine application in the dock or in the applications folder and Time Machine will open. Sometimes it takes awhile to load. If you don't have a Time Machine backup, I highly recomend you set one up for future use in situations like this.
You can't recover that file if you haven't got a backup of the data
thats a shame - not in trash and not saved to external disk - not sure if can undo earlier versions

If there hasn't been too much writing to the drive since you deleted it, it may be recoverable.
Apple does not generally make recommendations about third-party software, but software from CNET Downloads is usually well-checked and there are reviews.
