iPad camera connection kit compatibility with SD cards

Hi there,

I am really hoping that someone can help me out, I am going mad!

I am gong on holiday for 5 weeks and want to be able to get photos from my camera to iPad while away.

So I bought the Apple iPad camera connection kit. There was nothing that mentioned that it is not compatible with certain SD cards, so it seemed ideal.

I don't have a fancy camera, just a simple Sony Cybeshot, the card I have is 'SanDisk memory stick pro duo 2 gb magic gate'. The card is slightly smaller than the slot on the apple card reader but seems to fit into it fairly well. However, when I plug it in nothing happens, not even an error message- this lead me to believe that it was a fault with the equipment...or am I wrong- could it be that the card is not compatible??

I have tried everything, changing the format on the card via the camera, taking cover off iPad to ensure connection is solid and turning iPad on and off again.

The other thing is that my camera does not seem to have anything to attach a USB cable to.

PLEASE help me, before iPad AND connector go out of the window!!

An SD card is a Secure Digital type memory card. SD stands for Secure Digital, not Sandisk. A memory stick pro duo 2 gb magic gate

is a Memory Stick Pro duo type of card.

They are different types of cards. the Camera connection kits only works with the Secure Digital type.

This makes more sense. So is the card that I have not a Secure Digital card? And if that is the case, is it possible to get an SD card for my camera or is there only one sort of card that fits one sort of camera? I know this is not technically apple related but I am desperate for answers!!

Memory stick is proprietary to Sony and their cameras

The other unit in the camera connection .

kit will allow you to plug your camera via cable

to adapter USB at iPad adapter end

are you sure your camera has no out port for a cable

I have just done a quick search on Amazon, and it appears that I can get an SD card that will fit into my existing camera. Thank you so much for your help.

Each camera has a specific type of card it uses. Your particular camera uses the Memory stick pro duo type and cannot use anything else.

As was said however, you may be able to plug your camera straight into the USB port of the Camera connection kit, and transfer the photos from your camera while the memory card is in it.
