iPad 4 useless for eLearning (distance learning) management?

I have used my iPad 1 to manage my classes in eLearning (Desire 2 Learn) while on the road. My beautiful new iPad 4 wont allow me to view Discussions. Seems as though it is a Java issue. I, and any students who buy the "4", seem to be out of luck with Apple's "new and improved". Shall I return my new iPad and restore the "1"? A lot of teachers and students use the older iPads to "take" class. The iPad 4 is flawed, it appears, for a lot of users. Any thoughts?
