Q: Monitor Doesn't Recognize Mac Mini After It Goes To Sleep

Hello all,

 

I purchased a new 2012 base Mac Mini from Apple yesterday and absolutely love..aside from one thing. Whenever the computer goes to sleep and I try to wake it by clicking the mouse/keyboard, it turns on but my monitor doesn't turn back on. I've tried two HDMI cables, one will say "Cable Not Connected" and the other "No signal." In order to get my monitor to recognize the Mini, I have to turn off the computer and turn it back on.

 

I am using an Acer H233H monitor.

 

Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

Thunderbolt to HDMI did not work. I was, however, able to dig up a DVI cable and use HDMI to DVI and it works flawlessly. Weird, but I'll take it. Thanks for your help!

    Try this, in System Preferences > Energy Saver  set the computer to "Computer Sleep..Never", let the display sleep normally, it may help determine if it's the Mini's fault or if the monitor is losing the handshake of the HDMI interface. If the monitor comes back on after the display sleep mode with the computer not sleeping then something is up with the mini, if it doesn't then it's probably the display.

    Tried that and the monitor did not come back on. I had to reboot the Mini.

     

    For what it's worth, I used this monitor just fine with my 2010 Air going from DVI to HDMI.

    HDMI - HDMI needs to establish a connection that is sometimes very tenuous. I have a HDMI 4 port switch that works with my DVD - ROKU - ATT UVerse but not with the Mini. Even switching from one active feed to another it can lose the connection. Can you try the ThunderBolt (DVI) to HDMI and see if that works?

    I have the exact same problem as described.   Bought a new Mac mini yesterday and hooked it up to my old Acer H233H monitor.   Every time I come back to the computer after more than 15 minutes, the monitor has gone to sleep and I can'tt seem to wake it.  When I try the power on button, it displays "No Signal."   I have to power the mini off and restart it.   PS.. I am using HDMI output to DVI cable.   Has anyone found a definitive answer to this?   Thanks!

    Been struggling with this issue for the last few weeks also, but finally got it working.

     

    Setup:

    Mac Mini (late 2014) 2.6GHz, 16GB RAM 1600MHz

    Display: HP Envy 24 IPS

     

    When Mac mini is asleep, pressing the right 'Shift' key wakes both the Mac and monitor up.

     

    Pressing any other key, or moving the mouse only wakes the Mac and the monitor would remain in sleep mode.

     

    Hope this helps someone, as this issue is truly a pain.
