I recently purchased a used imac with os 10.6 The problem I am having the admin in accounts in system preferences I would like to change so I can download some items I have tried different things to do this but I cannot figure it out. thanks in advance.

I would like to change the admin name so when I try to download or change things I can do this. As it is I can not change it I do not have old password to change to new one so I cannot dowload things that it asks me for admin password this is frustrating.
So you need the admin password? Whoever sold you the machine should have given it to you. Have you the installation disk?
Thats the problem I bought it from a very large thrift store. i went back asked the person where I bought the computer he said we can not give you the password. I thought buying it there was a good idea because not only was it a nice deal but it was like I was maknig a donation. I know that i messed up because i do not have the installation disk. I bought it without thinking. Until recently I was still using an old G4 9.0 os. I guess you can say I have been out of the loop for a while.
If you contact your local Apple store you should be able to order a replacement installation disk; meanwhile, you can see if this page helps you to create a new admin account.
I did as you suggested I ordered a replacement installation disk. Now I am not sure what to do. I would like to install the DVD but once again it asks for the password I do not have. Can you please give me the steps to install it so the computer will erase all the previous owners passwords and make it my own . Thank you
