How long does it Apple take to lift that **** hold?

I ordered an iPhone 5 on Monday but cancelled the order on Wednesday cause I want to get one at the store (with that Reservation system, online order takes more than 2 weeks).
However, got a reservation for today at the store but my payment wasn't accepted. So I went to the bank and everything became clear...the payment from the cancelled order is still "pending" or the money is set on "hold", so it is on my account but not available.
Ok that's totally alright, but does it really take Apple several days to make that money available again?? Took them 2 seconds to take it so why isn't it possible to do the same thing backwards in a similar time?!
Any experiences of that kind?

cheers

If you used a debit card, it's not a matter of how long it takes Apple to doanything, it's a matter of how long it takes an authorization to roll off of your bank's system if it's not finalized. It can take anywhere from a few days to a week. Ask your bank.

A merchant can not 'reverse' an authorization against a card. There is just no way to do so in the Visa/MC processing world.

If they had actually charged you, finalizing the transaction and debiting your account, they could credit it back to you, but that can also take several days for your bank to process.

I used to work in the credit transaction processing business.
