What exactly are you trying to pair your iPhone with, and for what purpose?
iPhone supports these Bluetooth profiles only: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647
I am trying to sync it with a lexus rx330 , our iphone 3g syncs fine, the 3gs wont sync with it or our another bluetooth device in our other car , it just shows that it is searching. Thanks
Which version of iOS are you using on the 3GS? Also, you need to put both devices (the phone and the vehicle) into discovery mode. On the phone that is turning on Bluetooth, and check the vehicle manual for how to put the vehicle in discovery mode. After that, the phone should "see" the vehicle and they generally ask for a passcode. The vehicle manual should also provide you with that.
If you are using iOS 6.x on the iPhone, it will be using Bluetooth v4.0. You may need to check with the vehicle manufacturer to see if the vehicle supports that version of Bluetooth. What year is the vehicle?
the phone is using 4.2.1 ios. I've already paired our other iphone with the car so I know the car isn't the problem this 3gs just keeps searching and never finds anything , we tried it with a portable hands free device and it does the same thing , just searching .
Thanks
User troubleshooting procedures for the iPhones are restart, reset, restore from a backup and restore as a new device. You need to try those prior to determining if it is a hardware issue. However, if once you get past a reset, I would begin to believe hardware, especially if you cannot get another hands free device to pair. However, just to be sure, you should try all of the 4 steps I mentioned.
the bluetooth feature on this phone doesnt seem to work , some times you cant even get it to go into search you touch the bluetooth on the screen and nothing happens or it quickly flashes unavaible. Im wondering if I have to reload a different operating system
Thanks I will try that right now
Just remember that if you do a restore, it will load the most current version of iOS, which at this time is iOS 6.0.1.
reset the phone and it still just searches , thanks for your help , it must be a hardware problem with this phone
Okay. Like I said, the decision to update to iOS 6.x is yours. You can try it if you like, since it would be a fresh install of the iOS. You can restore from a backup and would be able to get your data back. Since it appears there is possibly a hardware fault, you may not have anything to lose.
I have a 2005 lexus lx 470 and want to know if my iphone 4s (latest ios version) will pair with the car.Can any one help? Thanks
It is hard to tell unless you just try it. The newer iPhones have had some difficulty in connecting to some vehicles, however that has been usually traced back to the vehicle manufacturers. iOS 6 uses Bluetooth v4.0 and if the vehicle does not support that, it may not work. That would require you to check with the vehicle manufacturer and see if they have an upgrade to your vehicle.
I have not had any problems with my 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. It worked with my 4S in iOS 5.1.1. and iOS 6 and iOS 6.0.1.
All you can do is try.
i tried all these steps with no luck. It is definitely the phone.
Tried all what steps? You contacted the dealer, and what did they say? I've read of issues with Lexus, and again, the dealers need to look into software updates for the vehicle systems.
This is definately an Iphone problem, not a problem with the cars bluetooth, we upgraded our phones to Samsung galaxy 3's and they paired in a few seconds. Im afraid apple seems to be falling behind as these new phones are far better than our iphones, ( my opinion of course ) now we have to decide between an ipad or a Samsung tablet after all this hassel the Samsung is probably the way to go
bluetooth wont work
