Having finally decided to try renting a movie with iTunes, I'm afraid the experience is not a good one.
When attempting to play the movie, I get the following error message:
"We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error occurred (-42110). There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try later."
Is this a common problem? It seems persistent at the moment.
I'm using iTunes 10.7 on OSX 10.8.2.

Thanks for your help. I removed the "SC Folder" following the instructions on the page you linked to and attempted to reauthorise the computer. iTunes told me the computer was already authorised, but it seems I can now play the rented movie in any case.
