I need to upgrade my Macbook Pro from 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard. Will I lose any files on my drive if I do that?

I have a Macbook Pro running 10.4.11. I am trying to upgrade from that to Snow Leopard then to 10.7.5. I know that I have to do it in steps. My question ins this. I have a Snow Leopard disk that came with my Imac that I can use to upgrade my laptop. When I go through the process, it says something about using Timeline to restore. Am I going to lose all of my files? All I need is for the OS to be updated. Will it be safe to go through with it or will I lose all of my files on the drive. Any answers to this question are much appreciated.

So, If I were to use the OS X Snow Leopard that came with my make and I want to upgrade that to Lion, etc. it won't work? Looks like to me that it goes through the motions of upgrading but asks me to restore using timeline. For one, I don't have an external drive to back up. Just wanted to upgrade to snow leopard in order to upgrade to Lion.

Now, I have been reading some stuff on this discussion board. Since I have OS X 10.4.11 on my Macbook Pro, and what I am trying to do is go from that to Snow Leopard then to Lion (or 10.7.5), what do I need to purchase, i.e., single pack or box set of snow leopard. Since I already purchased Lion. The link you sent me has the price of 19.99, is that what I need?
