I am not sure why, but my mac just keeps on freezing

Everything was fine, but then my mac ran out of battery and then shut off. When I reconnected it to a charger and started it up, I started seeing this problem. First, the start up took a really long time. Then when I tried to connect to the wifi, i saw the color wheel for nearly 5 minutes. Now the computer freezes and I see the color wheel at least once every 10 mins. It is really annoying and I need some help. Anyone have any suggestions?

Start with a basic repair after you charge it all the way up.
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk for OS 10.6.8 and under. If you are running 10.7 or 10.8 run Disk Repair from Disk Utility on your Recovery System. It shows you how in the link.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Repair reports and if DU was able to repair them. This could just be a start in repairs and you may need a better utility to finish the job.
Then Repair Permissions.
No need to report any Permissions errors........we all get them.
 DALE

This didn't really work. Well, most applications work fine, except the biggest problem is when I try to connect to wifi. Everytime I select a wifi, it freezes up for like 5 mins and then it will connect. The other aplications still freeze, but not nearly as consistently as the wifi thing happens. Everytime I connect to wifi it happens. Any other suggestions?
