how can i always have my icloud up todate?

hello

i have an ipod touch 4g and few days ago it started feezing and slowing down, i dont know if it has to do with the upgrader to ios6 that i did but then i erase all data on the ipod hoping it would fix it but now i lost a lot of important photos and i just want to make sure my icould is always up dated so if it crashes down i will be certain that ni info will be lost.
