iPod classic vs. iTunes V 10.x crash

I'm frustrated. I have an 80GB iPod classic and have tried to sync it lately with absolutely miserable success. I have/had iTunes 10.7. I plug in my ipod and it starts to sputter and gag and eventually crashes and I have to force quit. I've used advice on this site to use time machine to go to an earlier version and of course have run into "your library can't be read because it was made by an newer version of iTunes". Blah blah...got that unscrewed and STILL can not synch.

- what version of itunes still supports ipod classic???

MacBook (13-inch Aluminum Late 2008), Mac OS X (10.6.8), also have ipod shuffle

The latest version of iTunes still supports your iPod Classic. The freezing could be an indication of a corrupted or damaged hard drive in your iPod. I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread. He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

If necessary, post the resultings numbers and we can verify what the next steps to take.

I should have kept better notes, but some how between the repair disk and erase and sync magic occured. It tryed to sync and came back erased - oh crap- them I went for broke and repaired/erased/restored. Then itunes recognized it as a new ipod, started over and boom synced and fixed. I don't plan on plugging it is very often.

Thanks!
