Q: I can't see the tool bar when I open text edit

Firstly I want to cut and paste an excel doc into text edit and edit it. At the moment I can cut and paste but if I click on the text it brings up an adobe pdf. Secondly even if I just open a textedit page I have no tool bar at the top and can't see one in any of the dropdown options

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Shift command T will change the Textedit from txt to rtf. Here you will see your tool bar.

That worked dude, awesome sauce! What about cutting and pasting from excel and then being able to edit? Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Sorry I do not have Exel to advise.

Some thoughts:

-Maybe this old link would be insightful:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA20646?viewlocale=en_US

-Maybe Number (iWorks) would be of some use.

-Export has html and see if that helps in any way?
