Do I need os mountain lion 10.8 or above to mirror via airplay/apple tv ?

I have an imac mid 2011 (core i5) and mac OSx lion 10.7.5 but the airplay icon does not appear in the menu bar.

I can get music to play via airplay and apple tv from itunes on this cumputer so it is not the apple tc component that is not working.

Do I need os mountain lion 10.8 or above ?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.5)

About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring

AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.
