Workaround for TM's default exclusions list?

Wanted to send a crash log I'd seen a few days earlier, and found ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ was no longer there (I have no idea…). Went into Time Machine to recover said file, only to discover that Time Machine does not backup the Logs folder. Hmmm. Did I exclude that myself? No!

Then I remembered a file with 'default' exclusions. It's here:

/System/Library/CoreServices/backupd.bundle/Contents/Resources/

And it contains the user's Logs folder. Darn.

There's no fiddling with that file, obviously.

How can I get those log files into my Time Machine backup?

I could set up an automatic copy to another location that does get backed up, but maybe there's another workaround which does not involve duplicating files.

Is there one?

Mac OS X (10.6.8)
