iTunes Library File can't be read

It's a mess! I had to reinstall my iPod software and know when i go to open iTunes is giving this message:

file "iTunes Library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer verion of iTunes.

what!!???? i already downloaded the updates and it's still giving me this message. help!!!! iTunes won't even open!!!

although folks usually get this message if they've downgraded their itunes version, i've seen it happen once or twice if an upgrade failed silently. i think what is happening is that the library file gets converted to the new version, but the program files don't change.

try the upgrade again. does it go through more smoothly this time?
