My 3Gs says no service, or Searching

I recently unlocked my iphone from apple and now it says searching... or, No Service. The weird thing is that every once and a while my carrier logo pops up for about 30 to 45 seconds, in intrevals of about every 3-5 hours. when my phone does recive service for a brief moment it shows me texts and missed calls and im even able to make a call in that window of time but thats just as usefull as trying to use an ipod touch as a phone. My phone is unlocked i even asked apple twice.

steps I've taken:

-Full restore on ios 6.0.1

-Reset my network settings

-Got my network settings from my carrier (T-Mobile)

-Called apple (they're just as useful as my phone at this point)

-Called T-Mobile

-Rebooted my phone

i just want the danged thing to make anf recive calls & texts...

please help

i called up the original carrier (AT&T) and told them that i would like to have my phone unlocked, the associate there told me that she would send a request to apple to have my phone unlocked, about 7-8 days later i restore the phone in itunes and it says that it has been unlocked.

since then ive restored the phone 3 times, still no-go...
