Im changing the hard drive in my MBA 2008 A1237 from the 80GB HDD to the 64GB SSD. Ive seen a Snow Leopard install usb on ebay for £15 so ive brought it.... but I was wondering if it would actuly work with my particular Air?
As my perivouse exspriance tells me that some install DVDs are tied to cirent products such as my iMac install dvd wont work on my Macbook..

Probably it's a special USB drive with a special Snow Leopard for Late 2010 MacBook Air, so it won't work in your computer. Buy Snow Leopard from Online Store > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
But when I changed the drive I wont have an OS installed so how do I download it? The other option seems to be the more expensive Lion install usb which seems to be generic. But I'm not sure how the MBA would handle lion?
You can use Remote Disc to install OS X > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2129 Also, you can purchase the USB SuperDrive and use it to install Mac OS X
Okay so the best plan is to just get the install DVD and use either my imac or buy a usb supper drive?
If you have another computer, you don't need an USB SuperDrive unless your iMac uses OS X Mountain Lion or Lion. Remote Install isn't available in Lion and Mountain Lion
Okay thanks, iMac mac runs Mountain Lion. the super drive is £65 and a Lion install USB is about the same Price. I guess the Super Dirve is more handy but I then have to buy install DVDs too.
The OS X Lion Thumb Drive isn't being sold by Apple, so you need Snow Leopard. Buy Snow Leopard from Apple and use the USB SuperDrive to do it. Then, open Apple menu > Software Update and install the most recent version. If you don't want to spend more money, stay in Snow Leopard, but if you want Lion, call Apple to purchase Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
