Airport Express 2004 has rapid green blinking at startup

My airport express from 2004 is showing a behavior not listed in this article. As soon as I plug it in it blinks green rapidly, and never stops. Can't be factory restored.

Is there anything I can try before it goes to the recycle station as electronic waste? I use it only for streaming music and has been serving good for eight years.

This is NOT one of the three known reasons for green blinking;

(1) at startup for one second

(2) when reset by having the reset button pushed in long enough

(3) to show network activity if it is configured that way.

This is more rapid and it seems like it never even try to begin the startup process.

Is your AirPort Express working normally besides the flashing green status light? If so, I would recommend that you just place some electrical tape over the LED if you find it annoying. Otherwise, if the unit is not functioning properly, it may be on its "last legs." Six years for a piece of consumer electronics that typically operates 24x7 is a pretty good haul.
