Changing the Optical Drive in my Power Mac G4/AGP.

I want to take the current optical drive out and replace it with my Sony DRU-720A DVD+RW 18x drive. I tried replacing it, but it didn't show up in System Profiler, and I can't find any drivers for it for Mac OS X.

It should show up in the system profiler, if it's properly configured as "Master" (set the jumper on back accordingly) and the data ribbon and power cables are securely connected. If you're running Tiger (10.4.x), Panther (10.3.x), or Jaguar (10.2.x), you may need to download/run the third-party utility "PatchBurn" to create a profile for the burner, so that the drive functions with Apple's disk burning programs. Before doing so, check to see if the drive already has native support.
