Does switching to manual mode erase my library on my current library as the pop-up suggests when I select "erase and sync"?????

I'm afraid to click the 'erase and sync' button when I choose to manually manage my music; I don't understand how I will not lose my current library on my iphone if I choose it. HELP!!!
