Can I set Time Machine to exclude my emails from back up? I'm using a WD My Passport for Mac external hard drive and I selected the Time Machine preference during the install.?

Assuming you're backing up your mail some other way, you can exclude the folder
~/Library/Mail
in the Time Machine preference pane. You'll have to press the key combination command-period to see it in the file dialog.
Any data that you don't back up at all will eventually be lost.
