Q: Apple TV in the classroom and connection issues.

I have apple TV for my classroom and I'm having connection issues.  I am using an HD projector. It will work fine, projecting my iPad and other iPads in the classroom for about 20 minutes, then the connection fails.   It is no longer seen on the iPad and on the screen is apple TV home page.   This used to happen with the Reflection app, so I thought it was the app and got the apple TV instead.  The apple TV works fine at home for the usual way it's used, it's just not staying connected in my classroom.  We thought it may be overheating, but that's not the problem. My IT person has no idea what to do, so for now the apple TV is sitting in it's box not being used.  I have to tether myself to the projector and it's a drag.  Any thoughts or suggestions would be wonderful.  Has anyone else had issues like this before and if so how did you fix it?  Thanks

    Dear mrisoipads,

     

    I expect that the school wi-fi settings are limiting the Apple TV access to the network to the 20 minute period as a security precaution to prevent network congestion from 'guest' devices.  Or they could be limiting the iOS devices to 20 minutes connection time for the sme reason.

     

    If you do not need frequent/regular Internet access you can overcome this by simply setting up a wi-fi router for exclusive use in your classroom with Apple TV and iOS devices and avoid using the school network altogether.  Or you can 'persuade' the network administrator to allow unrestricted wi-fi access to your devices.

     

    There's no problem with Apple TV.
