My 3GS shows that it cannot connect to the server and it is temporary unavailable. I have tried different sim cards and computers for iTunes and different wifi connection to no result. i have restarted and rebooted the device to no avail. Any syggestions?

    Your antivirus or firewall may be blocking access to Apple's activation servers. Try temporarily disabling them.

     

    The other possibility is that you have used your computer at some time in the past to hack or jailbreak some iOS device (not necessarily the one with the problem). If this is the case you must clean up the hosts file on your computer.

    Thanks matey. It bacame like this upon the release of the iOS 6 and I had issues with my handset that day. As it didnt work I left it. But I thought the update will rectify the issue but it didnt. I will try to delete the hosts and see what happens. Any advice on where this can be found on the a windows 7 device? All firewalls have been disabled.

    If you have never hacked any iOS device the hosts file is not the problem, but the way to check is to open it and delete any lines that contain gs.apple.com.

     

    c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

     

    You need to have administrator privilege to edit the file.
