I've just done something uncharacteristically and atrociously stupid; I accidentally shove my camera card into the CD port.
What is the best way to get it out?
How understanding is Apple Customer Service to such a bonehead move?

Believe it or not this happens quite frequently:
I would not recommend fishing around in there with anything. You could easily break the optical drive mechanism.
I recommend the vacuum cleaner technique:
I got my SD card stuck into the cd slot, is there any way of getting it out myself?
Given the potential expense I would even buy a brand new Shop-Vac if necessary. You wanted a new one anyway, right?

OK... Vacuum didn't work (I have a Dyson that would give some Shop-Vacs a run for their money), but I managed to fish it out carefully by following a suggestion from another thread, using a peice of bent stock card...

Don't worry, I've managed to verify that my CD/DVD drive is still in full working order (ie. heart-attack averted).

Glad to hear you got it out! I too have stuck an SD card in my SuperDrive and used a similar method to the one you used. I;m just waiting till the day where I manage to get a disk stuck in my SD card slot 😀. I ended up putting one of those small rubber feet on the side of mie so I can feel where the two slots are. Helps me, it might help you.
